STOCK MAREETE.
Bider, Shenton «nd Co., Limited, report
<Aug. 7J:-tiood raia has feilen over tao
agricultural portions of this State since
last reporting and has put the gratters in
good heart again-lae store stock market
should firm as a result and crops will bene-
fit considerably. Several country markets
have been ocnducbsd, at which the demand
eased slightly and values ruled a .little be-
low late rates. Private business is steady,
and there are considerable numbers of nor-
thern sheep due to reach the "rail head"
at aa early date, wWlst further mobs of
store' oattle are shortly due for sale. Sat
sheep were easier in the metropolitan mar-
ket this week, but lambs showed a con-
siderable upward movement. Cattle were
firmer, due to a* temporary short supply
There was some, constema&on in the pig
market this woSk «hen th« Associated
Agents announced that the condemnation al-
lowance en pigs "would bs definitely reduced
to one per cent. Half a dosen of the larger
huyere resented the announcement and re-
fused to bid, the result being that some
300 of the best quality medium and heavy
porkers «nd bacon pigs -were held over for
subsequent disposal. The agents are con-
fident that their attitude in tho matter
being substantially supported by statistics
must command toe growers* commendation".
Tho fact that the, market has been heavily
supplied -with pies' during thc last sis: weeks
and that doubtless many of the buyers,
having good supplies on hand, _wore not
particular \as to ... whether they pUronasW
at jo-d¿y's .^alo or. not, probably accounts
for the «band some of them have taken.
The dairy, cow market continues animated,
good prices hoing available for anything
choice offering. .The horse market is quiet,
although we report good eales privately ot
heavy weighty, imported and local mares
and geldings,- Seles this .weak have been:
