MOOKA.
The monthly meeting of tho Moora Hoads
Board was held at the hoard chamber on
¡he 4th; inst:, Mr. H. B. - Lefroy presiding.
Correspondence was received from the De-
partment of Lands and .Surveys slating
that strong protests had been made by Mr.
H. Squancë to the provision of a road
through reserve 828, and asking if the
board desired further consideration to be
given to thc matter. It was re-
solved to reply to the affect that, the
board had come to its decision after a
great deal of discussion and consideration.
The department also wrote, in reference to
feeder roads to the Wongan-Mullcwa rail-
way, slating that if the board was not
prepared to meet any expense in compensa-
tion which might arise for improvements
or fencing no action could be taken to-
wards declaration by tho department. It
was agreed to hold thc matter over to
the next, meeting, a member in the mean-
time agreeing to ascertain the opinions of
persons directly concerned. Thc Midland
Railway CompRny wrote in reply lo request
by the board to construct a siding at the
107-mile, stating it was quite impossible
to accede to the request this year. TTIB
board consented to the closure of an old
track running through Mr. A. J. Clinch's
i property at hdawa, kuowu as the old Niu
ghan-road, The free use of the town hall
was granted to Mr. Frank England and
party for a comedy production on Septem-
ber 21 and 23 in naid of Red Cross Funds,
and the old hall was similarly granted to
the local rifle club for weekly drills. Con-
sideration wa« given to a letter from the
Postmaster-General's Department advising
thal a petition signed by Messrs.
A." Perejuan, H. Pickering, and 18 others
had been presented to the department ask-
ing that the letter pillar in Gardiner-street
be removed to the corner of Gardiner and
Dargai streets. Mr. W. J. Carrick stated
that, os the pillar was in a most convenient
place it should not be removed, which de-
cision was unanimously agreed upon.
The committee of the Agricultural Society
organised a "working bee" on Saturday
last lo effect repairs and alterations to tb©
show ground. .
Thc local branch of the Red Cross Society
held a display of work in the Moora lesser
hal] on Wednesday afternoon last, and
were rewarded with a. large attendance.
The visitors admired tho work which has
been .carried out by the committee for prc- !
sentalion to the soldiers. A musical pro«
gramme was carried out, and in the even- !
lug a dance was held at the town hall
in aid of the funds. Thc takings at both
functions aggregated £9.
General regret is felt at the death of Mr.
Michael Ilcenan, late partner in the firm
of Roberts and Been an, blacksmiths. De-
ceased succumbed to. a severe attack of
pleurisy and pneumonia' and leaves a wife
«nd five young children.
