TO AVEC FRANCHASE.
Who appeared in the last Australian as a Rhyming Advertiser.
AVEC FRANCHASE !— Avec Franchase !
So sweet thy verse — divine thy lays ;
Anacreon’s self — or Tommy Moore
With envious eyes might con them o’er !
For, such sublimity of diction,
Such absence of poetic fiction,
Such new orthography, and rhyme
Display Longinus’ true sublime !
If beauteous E—— has a taste
For genius, wit, and humor chaste ;
She must — she will her fondness place,
On thee,— renowned Avec Franchase !
Her coal black locks, her ivory neck,
For thee alone the maid will deck ;
Rivet on thee alone her eyes,
And breathe for thee her amorous sighs !
For sure no maid’s an-ni-ver-sa-ry,
(No Sarah, Anna, Kate, or Mary,)
E’er boasted lover, who bestowed
On her,— so fine a “ birth day ode !”
Then may she soon, to bless thy life,
No more a maid, be made a wife ;
And may she live, a wife, a mother,
Till ———— you’re quite tired of one another !
And, when to other worlds you speed,
May travellers on your tomb-stone read ;
“ A virtous dame, (her life will show it,)
“ Rests here,” —— and a “ consummate poet !”
A poet, who was ne’er outdone,
Or rivalled here, except by one ;
That learned Judge, whose mind’s distortion
Produc’d, for “ first fruits,” an abortion !
A poet, who in the Australian,
(An “ European,” not an alien,)
While he fair E——’s love sought after,
Excited huge amaze, —— and laughter ! ! !
