COUNTRY INTE?'1LIGEN?F.
DE LOWRAINE.
(From our own Correspondent.)
A few weeks only have trantspired since
many of our residents were apprehensive that
we would not be reprcsented at the next
sitting of Parliament, but within the lust ten
days several gentlemen, non-residents, were
spoken of as willing to help us in our
dilemma. More recently Henry Douglas,
Esq., Wardenu and A. F. Rooke, Esq., were
mentionedi ns likely to come forward; the
former at once conceded in ftlvor of the aIntter,
as he only nllowed himself to be mentioned
rather than that the district should be repre
sented by other than a local man. At:4 p.m.
on the 18th;inst. F. 3olstead, Esq., leturn
ing Officer, attended at the Police Office, and
declared A. F. aooke, Esq.; duly elected.
There wore no other nominations. Several
gentlemen were' present, and Mr. Ilooke, in
returning thanks for the honor conferred on
him for the third timio expressed a regret at
the circumstance that necessitated the election
(alluding the resignation of W. Archer Esq.,
whlose health did notpermit him to retain his
seat). oe hoped that if his (Mr. Rookeo's)
