TWO FLYING DOCTOR
PLANES FOR DARWIN
80 Patients In Bombed

help toe Darwin Hospital to be- <*>
come toe centre for specialist and
surgical treatment for the whole of
toe Northern
Territory, top

the week-end.

RAAF. They
had a flyin?
range of about
700 miles. One
plane was al-
ready stationed at Darwin. The
otoer was being fitted with
stretchers in Sydney.
Dr. Metcalfe, who arrived in
Adelaide by air from Darwin on
Wednesday, said that toe Darwin
Hospital, handed back by toe Army
for civilian use. now accommodated
80 patients. Repairs to toe hos
pital were continuing. Only one
ward was now out of action because
of bomb damage.
When sufficient staff was avail
able, toe Commonwealth Health
Department would make a medical
and dental survey of the Northern
Territory population, including
aboriginal tribes, as opportunity
permitted.
