Allowance Cut, Men At W.A.
Camps Refuse Work
Perth, August 20.
The Minister controlling unemploy- <*>
ment (Mr. Scaddan) said today that
unemployed single men at Blackboy and
Hovea camps had refused to work on
account of their cash allowance being
reduced from 5/ to 4/6 a week, since
the passage of the Financial Emer
gency Bill. There are 1,000 men at
Blackboy and 620 at Hovea. They are
housed and fed and have been paid 5/
a week for a certain amount of work.
The men at Hovea camp are employed
cutting firewood for the unemployed in
the metropolitan area.
Mr. Scaddan said that men could
leave the camps if they -were not satis
fied.
