League Football Match Of Day At Norwood Oval
North Adelaide Fights
To Retain Chance Of
Place In Semi-Finals
By ROVER
THE League football match of the day tomorrow will be
the meeting between Norwood and North Adelaide at
Norwood Oval. On this game will depend, to a
great extent, North Adelaide's prospects of inclusion in
the four teams to continue after the minor round ends.
North Adelaide will view two of the other matches — Port
Adelaide v. West Adelaide and West Torrens v. Sturt,
with some anxiety, for a defeat to either Port Adelaide
or West Torrens — or both of them — allied to a North
Adelaide victory at Norwood would probably lift the
Prospect team into the four.
North Adelaide cannot justify a spirit
of optimism as to the result either of
its own match tomorrow or of those to
be played by West Adelaide and Start.
Norwood won at Alberton last week,
somewhat luckily as even Norwood
will admit, but the moral effect of that I
victory and the sides freedom from'
serious casualties should be sufficient to j
enable it to start tomorrow's game a'
'strong favorite.
Torrents
On Mettle
West Torrens will be on its mettle to
morrow. Faced with the urgent neces
sity for a win and by a team which
has nothing to lose and glory to gain,
the Thebarton side will have to call up
all its reserves of determination and
skill. Sturt played almost joyously
on Saturday, its freedom from the
strain of concentration on the premier
ship fight apparently working wonders
' with' the team. * Often, towards the
end of' a season, a team low on the list
makes a belated run and upsets the
calculations of teams jostling for
places in the four. Sturt may be
starting just such a run. but
it would be unwise to place undu? re
liance on the face value of Sturt's form
in the game against South Adelaide,
good as it undoubtedly was. South
was without Murdy and Pryor and the
conditions were definitely against the
reproduction of the style of football
which has put South Adelaide at the
head of the list.
West Torrens, on the other hand, de
feated North Adelaide at Thebarton'
last week and did not seem to be un
duly daunted by the frequently ad
vanced contention that it is weak in
attack, it scored 13 goals in 25 scor
ing shots as compared with North Ade
laide s 11 goals from 31 shots and there
fore had the efficiency of its forward
division to thank for its success
Port Adelaide, frustrated by Norwood
last week, will have a chance—not
necessarily an easy one—of holding its'
position, by defeating West Adelaide
tomorrow. West Adelaide has won its
last two games and these successes
must surely have a beneficial effect on
the team's morale. They should pro
vide an interesting game at Adelaide
Oval.
South Adelaide, at full strength
again, or at least considerably stronger
than last week, should show that it has
profited by the jolt it received from
Sturt last week. It is matched against
Glenelg at Glenelg Oval, and current
form, despite the South Adelaide re
j verse last week, points to a Glenelg ?te
-IC&L.
Probably the winners tomorrow will
be:—
NORWOOD, on recent Torm.
WEST TORRENS, in what may be a
dose finish, although Start may sprinjr
another surprise.
POST ADELAIDE, because of its
greater experience and reliability, nar
tienjariyin the rock and roving.
1 SOUTH ADELAIDE, to Tfcw of its
return to foil strength.
