OBITUARY
Mr. Edward John Godfrey, who died
at Peterborough recently, was the con
of William and Susan E. Godfrey, of
Orroroo, where he was born 48 years
ago. He joined the railway service in
1903. and for come time worked on the
Cockburn line; afterwards he moved to
Farina, on the Great Northern line.
Prom there he went to Port Adelaide,
and in 1909 was transferred to Olary.
In 1913 he received an appointment
at Peterborough, where he eerved as a
guard for 14 years. He was appointed
yardmaster a; Peterborough in 1927,
and held that position until his death.
On July 23, 1902. he married Miss
Emily Crack at Cockburn, and leaves
a widow, four sons—Messrs. William J.
Walter E_ Cyril H.. and Ronald N.
Godfrey—and two daughters—Mrs. E.
L. Cramp and Miss Hera Godfrey—all
of Peterborough.
Mrs. Ellen Higgins, a pioneer of the
Morphett Vale district, who died re
cently, was the only daughter of Mar-
tin and Catherine Joyce, and was born
at Watergrass Hill, County Cork, Ire-
land, on January 8, 1848. She arrived
at Port Adelaide with her parents on
March 25, 1854, and until their death
lived at Thebarton. She was married
to Mr. John Higgins, and spent a short
period at the Squatters' Arms Hotel,
Thebarton. Then she went with her
husband 57 years ago to Morphett Vale.
Her husband died 26 years ago, and
Mrs. Higgins spent the remainder of
her life in the district with her family.
Mrs. Higgins left five sons—Messrs. P.
M, P. M., T. E. (Morphett Vale),
D. G. M. (Mile-End), and Thos. (Stock
port)—and two daughters—Misses M.
and R. Higgins (Morphett Vale). There
are 10 grandchildren.
