"WESTLAND) LIMITED"
Arrives Ahead of Time
Kalgoorlie ,June 5.
On its first run from Perth to
Kalgoorlie, the new express which
caters only for through passengers
and trans-Australian passengers,
and which left Perth on Saturday
at 4.40 p.m., arrived in Kalgoorlie
at 7.22 a.an. yesterday, eight
minutes ahead of time. The train
left Kalgoorlie at 4.20 p.m. yester
day on the return run to the coast.
The train, which was drawn by
one of the new Avon class loco
motives, caters 'only for passengers
who book sleeping berths. The new
type of engine is almost identical
with the P class previously used for
hauling the express, but with a few
modifications and improvements. A
new feature is the provision on the
train of a lounge car, obviating the
necessity of passengers remaining
in their compartments throughout
the journey. The lounge -is a con
verted sleeper and contains three
compartments, that at one end be
ing reserved for smokers. This con
tains easy chairs and ,card tables.
The centre section is furnished with
'a lounge suite and" the compart
ment at "the' other end caters for
non-smokers and is also furnished
with comfortable easy chairs.
The whole of the floor of the car
is covered with a heavy carpet and
patent footwarmers are provided
for use by the passengers in cold
weather.
The lounge car is an innovation
that will be much appreciated by
passengers on the line.
