CLARK'S TASMAN
FLIGHT
Start to be Made To-morrow
Sydney, Nov. 13.
Mr. L. E. Clark, a New Zealand
sheep farmer, expects to take off
from Richmond aerodrome at 2
o'clock on Sunday morning on his
flight across the Tasman Sea to the
Dominion.
The divisional meteorologist, Mr.
Mares, advised Mr. Clark to-day
that conditions were still unfavour
able, with a strong north-westerly
to westerly or south-westerly wind
and a tendency to severe squalls in
the eastern and central sections of
the Tasman. More favourable wea
ther conditions could, however, be
expected on Sunday morning, pro
viding the disturbances maintained
their present rate of movement
eastward. In the circumstances he
would advise Mr. Clark to hold him
self in readiness for a start on Sun
day morning.
The distance to Wellington, where
he intends to make the New Zea
land coast, is 1260 miles, and he
has then approximately a further
200 miles to cover to the Wigram
aerodrome, Christchurch. He will
thus have an ample margin of fuel.
Beyond the loading of petrol, his
preparations at Richmond will be
simple. The only rations he will
carry will be a vacuum flask of
black coffee to keep himself awake.
