MANITOBA GOVERNMENT
RETAINS POWER
Bracken Ministry Withstands
Shock Of Depression
WINNIPEG, June 17.
Hard times failed to defeat the
Manitoba Government at Thursday's
election, which was fought largely on
the past record of the Bracken Ad-<*>
ministration. The Conservatives had
attacked the administration of
finances. Dominion politics also played
a part, the Premier (Mr. Bracken*
blaming the depressed conditions of
Manitoba in part to ths tariff policy
of the Federal Government.
This morning the standing of the
Government was 28, Conservatives
four Labor one. Independent one,
doubtful 19: deferred elections, iwo.
One Cabinet Minister, Mr. Ewan
McPherson was defeated by the Con
servative leader, Mr. F. G. Taylor.
Mr. Bracken, who has headed a Pro
gressive Government since 1922, a few
weeks ago formed a coalition with the
Liberals.
