race meetings has been an attraction for
racing folk, and year after year a con

Many trainers consider such a trip makes
the horses decile because of the travelling
about from town to town.
Port Pirte for a considerable period
opened the round, but lor several years
has not raced owing to the lack of local
support. A town with the population of
Port Plrie should be able to race five or
six times a year with profit; If supported.
The Licensed Victuallers took over the
club, and had a few successful meetings.
The club has now been re-formed and will
open the round on Wednesday of nest
week. The officials are:—Stewards, Messrs.
M. J. Eogan (stipendiary). J. Flrmln Jen
kins (former secretary), and J. Forgan;

The Laura Jockey Club is holding a
"Back to Laura" meeting on June 25 in
connection with the town's 50th birth
day. Laura used to race on Easter Mon
day and Eight Hours' Day each year, but
latterly it was found that the compe

witn the attendance and one meeting a
year—on Easter Monday—now fills the bllL
Messrs. s. Condon and H. B. MaySeld are
the Joint secretaries.
The Orroroo Club will race again this
year. The club has for its president Mr.
Sam Basheed, who has always extended
his hospitality to visitors and helped in
many ways to make their trip to Orroroo
enjoyable. Mr. Walter Addlson is another
who loses no opportunity to welcome
visitors., Mr. C. B. Hennessy Is the sec
retary.
The Quom meeting will follow Orroroo
on Saturday, July 2. Horses usually
reach Quorn on Thursday, and the club
supplies stalls and straw free. The club
generally submitted a £300 programme,
but In common with other clubs, met
with disaster in IS3O. and lost £100 on
the meeting. A reduction of stakes In
1931 resulted In a successful meeting betas;
held, and stakes have now been Increased
£20 ever last year's figures. The stewards

judge, Mr. E. McMahon; and Joint sec
retaries, Messrs. D. Hammond and W. R
Thompson. A number will journey to
Port Augusta on Saturday night after
races, but there is always sufficient amuse
ment for those who remain at Quorn. A
cricket match is always arranged between
visiting trainers and Jockeys against local
playen.. and played at Wyacca. 18 miles
from Quorn. The main item is the din
ner and tta, which are grilled over a
lighted fallen tree over which netting Is
stretched. It Is the envy of the boys
who are "wasting."
Port Augusta provides fishing trips and
shooting parties. The Port Augusta
meeting will open on the following Tues
day, ond will be continued on Thursday.
This club is one of the soundest finan
cially in South Australia. Port Augusts
is an ideal place In winter, and those
who visit the town at race time have
Plenty to occupy their attention. It Is
ga^a week in reality. Tlie Joint sscre
taries are Messrs. E. M. Hutton and C.
Elschmueller; Mr. John Pick is president,
