DRIVING WHILE DRUNK.
After evidence had been called to show
that he had been in poor health and under
treatment for the past two years, Denis
Keane (60), dairyman, who was charged.
in the Perth Police Court yesterday with
having driven a motor car in St. George's
terrace on July 24 while under the influence
of liquor, was fined £25 and had his
driver's licence suspended for six months.
Keane admitted the charge. The Bench
was occupied by Messrs. H. D. Moseley,
P.M., and A. H. Priestley. J.P.
Constable Gallagher said that the car
travelled west along St. George's-terrace
till just past William-street, when it
suddenly swerved and collided with a stationary
car outside St. George's House. Witness
found defendant to be the driver and
he was later certified by Dr. Randell to be
under the influence of liquor.
Mr. L. D. Seaton (instructed by Messrs.
Lavan, Walsh and Seaton) appeared for the
defendant, and called evidence to show
that owing to the state of his health any
small quantity of liquor was liable to
affect him unduly. A second charge of having
driven in a manner dangerous to the
public was withdrawn.
