ROYAL PRINCES' EMPIRE
'TOUR.
Melbourne, Jan. 5.
During the sittings of 'the Imporial
Press Conference in London in
June, it was mentioned, unofficially,
that. an all-Empire tour was pro
iected for the two eldest sons of the
Prince of Wales. A private letter
recently received states that the
matter has been .sufficiently - advanc
ed to justify the prediction that the
trip will be made in 1911, and tha;t
very probably' a. small fleet of Eng
"ish warships will be formed as an
escort. The young princes will visit
Canada,; Australia; New Zealand,
India, and South Africa.
Prince Eda?ard is in his 16th year,
having been born on Junc 23, 1894,
and Prince Albert was 14 on De
cember 14 last.
They are both undeir training for
the navy.
The tour will iecall the long
cruise made by their father, the
Prince of .Wales, and his elder bro
t~her, the late Duke. of Clarence, in
1881. They were midshipmen on
H.M.S. Bacohante (Captain Loird
Charles Scott), which formed one
of a squadraon of ships under the
Earl of OClanwilliam, whose flagship
was. the Inconstant. They ware .un
der the governance of Canon Dalton,
and during their visit to Australia
visited nearly every State.- An ac
cident, happened to the rudder of
the Bacohante while at Albany, and
the princes, came on by mail
steamer to Adelaide, thence over
land to Melbourne, where they re
joined her.
