SURF LIFE-SAVING.
COTTESLOE CARNIVALS.
_ At a meeting 01 the Cottesloe Municipal Coun
cil on Wednesday night, permission wu grant
ed to the Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club to con
duct carnivals on January 1. 1030 and ou
January 24, 25 and 20. In moving the motion
tliat permission be granted, Cr. Birkbcck sug
gested that the club should pay the council £10
for each carnival daj\ Cr. Webb objected to the
payment to the council of a portion of any
profit made from the ' carnivals. The members
of the surf clubs, he said, did valuable work
each season in protecting bathers at the vari
ous beaches and indulged in extensive training
and preparation for the carnivals.
Cr. Birkbeck said that the club often cleared
good profits ou a three-day carnival and he
thought that, in view of the financial position,
the club would not begrudge the payment of the
amount fuggtsted. If the occasion arose when
the returns from the carnivals were not satis
factory the council could come to some ar
rangement with the. club. The motion embody
ing the suggested payment was carried.
