N.S.W. ELECTIONS.
EXPENDITURE AT ROTHBURY.
A Statement Denied.
SYDNEY, Oct. 16.— The statement that
the Government undertook to pay the col
liery owners £23,000 a month or almost
£300.000 a Year is without foundation.'
said the Minister for Mines (Mr. Weaver),
who is the Nationalist candidate for Neu
tral Bay, at a meeting to-night.
'Mr. Lang stated that the cost incurred
in opening the Rothbury mine was
£1,000,000,' he said, 'but I do not know
where he obtained his figures. Perhaps
some Treasury figures have been taken,
duplicated and reduplicated. Thirty five
thousand tons of coal were produced and
sold at a price reduced by 3/9 a ton, and
after deducting all charges the profit
made was £2,659.'
