CRICKET.
A general meeting of the Telephone
Cricket Club was held on Monday evening,
August 30, when Mr. T. McGregor occupied
the chair. It was decided that the club
should still remain in the Second Junior
Association. The following officers were'
elected :-President, W. A. L. Knot (In-
spector- of Telephones) j vice-presidents,
Messrs. W. Moyne, G. Burton, F. Lox, P.
Connelly, E. Wolfe, J; Smith, J. Stewart,
W. Aldred, G. P. Gardiner, H. H. Stinton,
H. C. Swann, H. Glaskin ; captain, H.
Daw; vice-captain, J. Douglas; secretary,
E. Milnes; treasurer, BT. Thompson; um-
pires, J. Gilchrist and T. Jackman. The
chairman congratulated the duh on its
meritorious win of the premiership oí
1896-97, they having won the whole ll
matches, without suffering a defeat. The'
general and selection committee were
elected, and a vote of thanks was accorded
to the chairman.
Midland Junction CC-The above club
held their annual meeting on Tuesday
night, August 31st. There was- a large
attendance of players. The following
officers were elected :-President, Mr.
Geo. Roberts ; vice-presidents, Messrs.
Nüssen, Morrison, Hummerston and White ;
patrons. Mr. N. K. Ewing, M.L.A.; Dr.
Elgee; Messrs. Moon, Dcwsin, Urwiu,
Royce, Halpin, Egglesten, Norman and
Stathern; committee, Messrs. Keane,
Roberts, Rodda, Grace, and Girdlstone. It
was decided to join the Perth first-rate
Junior Association, and to put down a con-
crete pitch on the local grounds. As there
are some good men in the district, the
club ought to. give a very, good account of
themselves in the approaching season. A
start is to be made at once to put the
ground in good order, and the material for
the pitch will be on the ground in the
course of a few days.
A meeting of the newly-formed Leeder-
ville Cricket Club was held on Mpnday
evening at Winter's Leederville Hotel.
Cr. Howard presided, and about 30 mem-
bers, or prospetcive members, attended
The committee reported that they had
waited on the council with regard to form-
ing a pitch on the local reserve, and clear-
ing the ground. Thc council promised to
do all in their power to assist the club,
both financially and otherwise. A deputa-
tion was appointed to wait on the council
on Thursday evening with respect to the
matter, and also to wait on the Govern-
ment with tho view , of obtaining a grant
towards forming a cricket oval. Officers
were elected as follows:-Captain {pro
fem.), Mr. Tomlinson; vice-captain (pro
tem.), Mr, Hoft; treasurer Mr. Howard;
and secretary, Mr. C. W. Johnson. A sub-
scription of £2 2a. was received from Mr.
Walter Jackman, one of 20s. from Host
Winter, and 10s. 6d. from Mr. J. W. John-
son. Subscriptions were ako promised by
the Mayor and other leading residents.
Messrs. Howard and Tomlinson promised
a trophy for the highest individual score
during the season. Mr. T. S. Healey
promised a bat to the member making the
best batting average, and Mr. Richardson
a gold medal for the best bowling average.
After being liberally entertained by Crs.
Tunnock and Howard, the meeting closed
with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
The club intend holding a bali on Friday,
October 8.
A special general meeting of the members
of the W.A. Cricket Association was held
on Monday at the Mechanics' Institute,
there being an attendance of about 25.
The president of the association (Mr. J.
C. H. James) explained that the meeting
had been called for the purpose of revising
the rules and regulations which had been
adopted on the formation of the association
for its proper guidance and control. The
rules were then considered consecutively,
and in many instances after lengthy dis-
cussion any necessary alterations were
made. No fewer than 93 rides were re-
vised and the% majority of them altered.
At a late hour the task was completed, and
the meeting closed with a vote of thanks
to the chairman.
The annual general meeting of the mem-
bers of the Karrakatta Cricket Club was
held on Monday at the South Australian
Cafe, Hay-street. Mr. Kelsey presided
over a large attendance, there being about
50 members present. The balance-sheet
presented by the Treasurer showed the
receipts to be ¿8189 9s. 6d., and the expen-
diture JE213 18s. 4d., thus leaving a debit
balance of J624 8s. lOd. The report for the
season 1896-7 was read by the Secretary, and
showed that the membership roll totalled
91, which was considered most satisfactory,
seeing that the club had been in existence
only 12 months. Three practice wickets had
been secured on the Esplanade, and through
the liberality of the Hon. Alex. Matheson,
M.L.C, the club had been provided with a
ground on the Melville Water Park
Estate. Mr. Loton had also granted the
committee permission to lay down a wicket
on his property in Lord-street. During j
the season the club had played eleven j
association matches, winning nine, draw-
ing one, and losing one, thus placing
the club in the proud position of
premiers for the season 189G-7. The
senior eleven had also played eight off
matches, all of which were won. Two
additional elevens also competed in Junior
Association matches, the B team securing
third position out of 12 competing teams,
and the A team, though not so fortunate,
were well up on the list. The report con-
cluded with a résumé of the individual
performances of the se veral members of the
team, and with sundry recommendations
for the guidance and control of the club.
The office-bearers for the ensuing sea-
son were then elected as follows :
