ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS.
Pronunciation of Name.
'Rectite' (Bruce Rode). — Pronounce 'Irene'
as 'I-ree-nee' ('i' as personal pronoun).
Local Products for Britain.
A.R.G. (Belka). — The name of a firm which
Is prepared to forward fruit or other West
Australian products to residents of Britain for
you has been sent by post. .
Without Professional Advice.
X.Y.Z. (Merredin,). — You need not necessarily
act by a solicitor in completing the purchase of
the business, if you think you will not be pre
judiced in doing so without such advice.
Purchase of House.
'Inspection' (Fremarille). — You are not
obliged to admit any intending purchaser to in
spect the house of which you are a tenant; but
you may, perhaps, think fit to do so at the
landlord's request.
Question of Domicile.
Mrs. S. (Bellevue). — You cannot justify a re
fusal to live at the place desired by your
husband, if he will be living there himself,
except so far as he is necessarily absent on
work.
Water Rights.
'Thirsty' (Subiaco). — The owner of the land
in question cannot lawfully use the water from
the brook for irrigation purposes, so as to
materially affect the rights of the owners of
the other land through which the brook flows.
Payment By Instalments.
'Interested' (Brunswick). — The creditor is
not obliged to accept payment of the debt by
nstalments, but if he sues in the Local Court
and the amount due does nojt exceed £20, the
magistrate may, on the defendant's application,
older payment by instalments.
Holiday Pay.

the employment in question is not governed
by an industrial agreement or award. If this
is so, holidays and holiday pay, if any, depend
on the terms of the agreement under which
the worker is employed.
A Will Matter.

probate of the will can be obtained from the
office, of. the Master-in-Equity, Supreme Court,
Melbourne (probate and administration branch)
The search fee is five shillings. The cost of
the copy depends on its length — sixpence per
folio of 72 words.
Watermelons.
'Cautious' (Dinninup). — As the sufferer
could not be sure whether his camplaint was
caused through eating watermelon or not, im
mediate medical advice should be sought on
becoming ill. There are so many causes of
such disorders that it would be dangerous to
attempt a home remedy. Ptomaine conld be
caused by eating bad watermelon.
Home-made Axle Grease.
'Cocky' (Bendering). — To make grease for
the axle3 of waggons and carts mix 80 parts
of fat and 20 parts of very fine black lead.
Melt the fat in a varnished earthen vessel, and
add the black lead while constantly stirring
until it is cold, as otherwise the black lead, on
account of its density, would not remain .in sus
pension in the melted fat.
Infant's Guardian.
D.M. (Perth). — 1. The father can appoint
the guardian of his infant child by deed or by
his wiU. 2. On the death of the father, the
infant's stepmother is not the natural guardian,
and has not the right to the custody of the
child. 3. A judge of the Supreme Court, on
an application by an originating summons issued
by someone acting as next friend of the infant,
would appoint a guardian. Such application
might be made by a sister of the child or by
the stepmother.
Change of Name,
Legal (South Fremantle). — The licence of the
Minister for Justice to change the name by
which a person was registered at birth can be
obtained on an application in writing addressed
to the Under Secretary for Law, Supreme Court,
Perth.' The licence is granted under the Change
of Names Regulation Act, 192», and is re
gistered in the office of the Registrar of Deeds,
Cathedral-avenue. Perth. The fee is ten shil
lings.
Condemned House.
T.L. (East Perth). — The action by the local
authority is apparently taken under Division
(1) of Part V. of the Health Act, relating to
houses unfit for habitation. The ovmer is the
person responsible; but if the local authority
should direct that the house is not to be in
hal/ted, any person who continued in occupa
tion after service of such notice, would be liable
to a daily penalty not exceeding forty shillings.
The Act can be seen at the Public Library,
Perth, in the appendix to the volume of statutes
of 1931.
Dividing an Estate.
'Nil Desperandum' (Mt Lawley). — 1. If the
value of the property of the intestate, after
payment of debts, does not exceed £500 the
widow takes the whole. If it exceeds £500,
the widow takes that amount and one-third of
the residue, the remaining t.vo-thirds being
divided between the children in equal shares.
(2) The administrator has not the right to
carry on the business of the deceased without
the authority of the Court; but if the bene
ficiaries are of full age, and the debts of the
intestate are paid, the beneficiaries might agree
to the business being carried on pending a
realisation and distribution of the assets.
