PERSONAL.
Mr. J. E. Virtue, solicitor, of Perth, re
turned on the Mongolia yesterday from a
holiday trip to New Zealand.
Mr. S. Masel, manager of Worths, Ltd.,
who visited the Eastern States on busi
ness, returned yesterday by the Manoora.
Mr. P. S. Cotterell, manager of P. Falk
and Co., Ltd., who visited Melbourne on
business, returned to this State yesterday
by the Manoora.
Mr. E. Clough, manager of 'Lincoln
Mills (Aust.), Ltd., who made a business
trip to Melbourne, returned to this State
yesterday by the Manoora.
Mr. C. E. Prior, managing director of
Wiluna Gold Mines, Ltd., will leave by
the Orontes today for Tasmania, accom
panied by Mrs. Prior.
Mr. B. Meecham, managing director
of the Ajax Plaster Company, Ltd., ac
companied by Mrs. Meecham, will leave
today by the Orontes for Tasmania.
Mr. L. A. Brumby, managing director
in Western Australia for Ezywalkin, Ltd.,
will leave tonight for Melbourne by the
Great Western express. He expects to be
away for five or six weeks.
Mr. H. W. Soothill, general manager
of Producers' Markets Co-operative, Ltd.,
who underwent a minor operation in a
private hospital last week, has resumed
his duties.
Mr. W. Taylor, special representative
from Melbourne of Paterson, Laing and
Bruce, who has been in Perth for the
past fortnight, will leave for Melbourne
tonight by the Great Western express.
I.Ir. W. L. Sanderson, secretary of the
Pastoralists' Association of Western Aus
tralia, who attended a conference of the
Graziers' Federal Council at Melbourne,
returned to this State yesterday by the
Manoora.
Mr. J. C. Murray, general manager in
Western Australia for the Vacuum Oil
Company Proprietary, Ltd., will leave by
the Manoora on Thursday to visit the
Eastern States. He will be accompanied
by Mrs. Murray.
Mr. A. C. Joyce, assistant secretary to
the Federal Treasury, was appointed at
the meeting of the Loan Council in Can
berra yesterday to succeed Mr. S. G.
McFarlane as secretary to the Loan
Council. '
The Minister for Mines (Mr. S. W.
Munsie) is still a patient in the St. John
of God Hospital, where he has been for
the past ten days. He is suffering from
a minor complaint whioh involves pain
ful treatment.
Mr. G. E. Hepplewhite, manager in
Western Australia for the Texas Co.
(Australasia), Ltd., will leave tonight for
Melbourne by the Great Western express
on a business visit. He expects to be
away for three weeks.
Mr. H. E. Searle, zone manager of
General Motors-Holdens, Ltd., left last
night by train for Kalgoorlie, where he
will join the Great Western express to
morrow to attend a conference in Mel
bourne.
The Rey. C. H. Gray, L.Th., who was
until recently at the Baptist Church,
Croydon (New South Wales), reached
Fremantle on the motorship Manoora
yesterday. He will take charge at Wagin
in succession to the Rev. A. E. Hollo
way.
Mr. W. J. Winterbottom, managing
director of the Winterbottom Motor
Company, Ltd., and vice-chairman of the
Western Australian Turf Club, returned
on the motorship Manoora yesterday
from Melbourne, where he attended a
business conference.
Captain F. J. Smith, formerly master
of the interstate steamer Karoola, is
travelling to Great Britain on the liner
Mongolia, which reached Fremantle from
the Eastern States yesterday. He is go
ing to Belfast, where he will take up
command of the Kanimbla, the new
vessel built for McHwraith, McEacharn,
Ltd.. for service on the Australian inter
state trade. Captain Smith win com
mand the Kanimbla on her maiden voy
age to Australia this year.
Rear-Admiral H. J. Feakes, who re
tired from the Royal Australian Navy
three years ago, reached Fremantle from .
Singapore on the motorship Centaur last
night. He is returning to his home in
the Eastern States after a visit to Japan,
Siberia, Manchukuo, Siam and Singa
pore. He will probably join the liner
Orontes at Fremantle. today. For some
years he was offlcer-in-charge of naval
establishments in Sydney and later he
commanded the aircraft carrier H.M.A.S.
Albatross.
Professor T. G. B. Osborn, Professor of
Botany at Sydney University, is travel
ling abroad on the motorship Sultan
Star, which reached Fremantle from the
Eastern States yesterday. He has a year's
leave of absence and he proposes to
attend the forthcoming International
Phytogeographical Excursion to Morocco
in March, after which he will undertake
research work at Kew and other botani
cal institutions. For several years, when
he was Professor of Botany at Adelaide
University, he carried out research work
on the eaten-out saltbush land in Central
Australia and while abroad he will com
pare the Morocco-Algiers type of vegeta
tion with that of the areas in which
he has worked In Australia.
MAIL PLANE PASSENGERS.
The following have booked to travel by the
Perth-Adelaide mail plane, which will leave May

J. Stopford. Kalgoorlie to Ceduna: Mr. W. E.
