MOTOR CAR THEFT.
^^ ?--
Young Man Ordered a Year's Gaol.
'Many cases of this kind have come
here lately. In each case I have been
disappointed because I could not inflict
what I thought was a nroDer Dunish
ment. Most of the offenders were young
men. You are not-so young as the others,
and you have an unenviable record. You
will be sentenced to 12 months' imprison
ment with hard labour.' These remarks
were made by Mr. H. D. Moseley, P.M., in
the Perth Police Court yesterday to Wil
liam George Bull (23), labourer, who was
charged with having unlawfully assumed
control of a motor car, the property of
Margaret Kerr.
Constable Gibson said that a report
had been received by the Criminal Inves
tigation Branch that a car had been
stolen from the Esplanade, Perth, on
February 1. About 4.20 ajn. on the fol
lowing day he saw the accused sitting
with a young woman in a car parked in
Albany-road, Victoria Park. As he ap
proached the car the '? woman escaped.
The accused told witness that his name
was George Smith, he came from Wagin,
and he owned the car. Later he gave
his correct name and admitted having
stolen the car.
