LOCAL PRODUCTS.
Label Comoetition Prizewinners.
Several fine entries were received in con
nexion with the label competition pro
moted by the West Australian Chamber
of Manufactures, which closed last week.
Sybil E. Robbins took first place in the
girls' section and May Riddles came sec
ond. The winner put up her display in
a beautiful way, showing hundreds of classi
fied labels, together with slogans and ad
vertisements of their value and type.
Pasted on separate cardboards and linked
together to open like' a book, and with a
good frontispiece, this effort was quite the
most worthy. The entry which took
the second prize was also meritori
ous, labels being classified according
to the situation of the factories,
and a good deal of painstaking effort and
originality was shown by this 11-year-old
competitor. Bob Pearce, of Nedlands,
constructed 'The House of Prosperity,'
and covered it entirely with labels of local
products. He gained first place among the
boys. John Kernaghan, of Claremont,
placed a great number of labels very care
fully on a large sheet of brown paper, and
this secured him the second boys' prize.
These four prize-winning efforts may be
viewed at the Department of Industries,
Barrack-street, where there is also to be
seen this week an interesting display of
boots of local manufacture.
