JUBILEE APPEAL.
BUNBURY COUNCIL'S SUPPORT
Motor Car Raffle.
Although Bunbury Municipality, early
in the course of the jubilee appeal for
youth and motherhood, decided against
active participation in the effort, opinion
nas now cnangea ana. at a meeting last
night the council unanimously decided to
support the movement and to use every j
endeavour to raise the quota set for the ]
town. This means that two of the !
strongest bodies in Bunbury — the council I
and the Chamber of Commerce — are j
actively working for the movement, and
it is anticipated that little difficulty will
be experienced in obtaining the desired
amount.
Arrangements are now being made for
a spectacular opening of the campaign in
Bunbury and, in this regard, the local
committee is co-operating with the hon
orary director of the appeal (Mr. S. W.
Perry).
Mr. Perry yesterday said that, although
the unavoidable cancellation of the motor
car popular girl contest through lack of
entries had caused great disappointment
to those who had organised the contest,
it was a source of considerable gratifica
tion to know that the valuable gift made
by Sydney Atkinson Motors, Ltd., was
not going to be wasted. He desired to
express his appreciation of the action of
the members of the State Lotteries Com
mission in allowing a raffle for this hand
some prize. It was his intention to print
immediately 20,000 tickets which would be
sold at 1/ each and, therefore, some for
tunate person in the State would become
the possessor of a Chevrolet 1935 model
master coupe motor car for one shilling.
The raffle would open as soon as the
tickets were printed and would close on
October 26, the drawing taking place a
few days later. It was confidently ex
pected that £1,000 would be raised by this
means.
Bridge Final.
Considerable interest is being taken in
the grand final tournament in which those
players who qualified during 'bridge
week' will compete for the jubilee cup.
This event will take place on Monday,
September 26, in the Carlton Club cafe,
and, as the finalists' many friends desire
accommodation, it has been decided to
add special prizes which will be given
for a hidden number (both auction and
contract) and for the highest score (both
auction and contract). Over 80 tables
have already been booked and bridge
players desiring to take part in the drive
may book tables by ringing the jubilee
appeal office (B1644), or Mrs. McGuire
(B7730).
