Tuckpointing.
'Inquirer' asks how to tuckpoint the
front of a house, what paint to use,
and the approximate cost.
Scrape off the old white tuckpointing
and wash with a rag and water over
the surface to be tuckpointed. The wash
-ing brings bank the original Colour of
the Dry which should be allowed to dry
thoroughly. If the washing does not
bring back the colour, mix 1/2 lb. Spanish
brown dry colour with water and wash
well. Mix 1lb. of whiting to a thick paste
and tuckpoint In the usual manner, 1/2lb.
of Spanish brown would cost 4d. and
the whiting would cost 3d., making a
total cost of 7d.
Cockroaches. «
'Wellwisher' (Armadale) would like to
know of a method of ridding a house
of cockroaches.
The following methods should prove ef
fective. Sprinkle a plentiful supply of
boracic acid about wherever the pests are
troublesome, particularly in cupboards,
drawers, around fifeplaces, stoves, and
about the sink. Also leave about at
night on the floors, tables and mantel
pieces saucers half filled with a mixture
of equal parts of borax and sugar, moist
ened with water to a smooth paste. This
should be persevered with for at least
a week.
Cement Paths.
'Inquirer' asks what colouring is used
in making red cement paths.
The colouring used is Spanish red oxide
dry colour, obtainable at most stores for
5d. a lb.
