PERTH WOOL SALE.
PRICES SLIGHTLY FIRMER,
BIG CLEARANCE.,
AVERAGE OF 16.94d. PER LB.
. A rise of from par to five per cent com*
pared with November rates was recorded
at the Perth wool sale yesterday, which
was the fifth of the season. Brokers
offered approximately 25,000 bales, which
included large proportions of Murchison
and Great Southern wool, and, with very
keen competition from all sections of the
trade, almost total clearances were effected
under the hammer. The market is now
at the highest point of the season.
Although some of the Murchison wool
was the last of the season's clips and
therefore less attractive than the wool of
the same clips offered earlier in the sea
son; the general standard of the Hutchi
son' wool was most satisfactory and was
very favourably commented on by buyers.
Fewer outstanding Great Southern clips
were offered, but there was a larger supply
of Lower Great Southern wool, much of
which was of better growth and more
bulky than that from the Upper Great
Southern. On the whole, there was a
good display of 'blue' wool, which was
mostly stylish and dry in condition. The
offering compared very favourably with
that submitted at the* previous rale.
.Yorkshire buyers were again very promi
nent in the bidding, followed by French
and German representatives, while good
support was provided by Belgium, Switzer
land, and Italy. Japan, although less keen
than at previous sales, due. it was stated,
to {the supply of wool suitable for her re
quirements being in lighter supply, ap
peared to rank equally with Germany as
a; buyer. Immediately after the Novem
ber, sale prices paid at other selling centres
declined by approximately five per cent.
Bradford 64's tops falling lid. per lb., and
£ ?PP«-r«? tb*t the December sale would
be conducted on a lower basis. Last week,
however, an improvement developed at
Eastern States sales, the full effect of
which was reflected in yesterday's results.
.'All descriptions sold exceptionally well,
out the keen demand for the sound,
broader qualities of Merino was again
outstanding. This wool frequently rea
lised almost as much as the finer descrip
tions of the same clips. Good skirtings,
br.ok.ens, locks and stained pieces, short to
medium lambs, crossbred* and comebacks,
particularly the lower qualities, and
ecoureds showed the full extent of the
Tiac. Perth, it is claimed, is the most
important centre in the world for the sale
of'interlottedv wool, and yesterday one
Una offered 2,300 bales in this section, of
which 1,842 bales sold from 15d. to 23d.
_ The top price for greasy Merino , was
24$d., which was obtained by Dalgety and
Co: for 22 bales of super 70's quality of the
Gull Culli clip of Mr. W. Snell, Nannine.
Ihis wool was very light in condition and
thoroughly sound and was purchased by
John Sanderson and Co. Scoured sold to
32id. for 11 bales of the Boy Hill clip. The
average price (greasy and scoured) for the
sale, was 16.94d. per lb., compared with
16.6d. for the previous sale.
, :In the following brokers' reports, which
are given in the order of Bale of the big
lots, the minimum price quoted for wool
from the Ashburton northwards, is 15d.,
from the other pastoral areas 16d., and
from the southern districts, 17d.

WESTBAL1AN FAfcMERS, LTD. report*.—
We offered approximately 2,200 bales. Gener
ally speaking the selection was an excellent
one. It included some very useful agricultural
lines drawn from the Northampton area, south*
wards, and several good 'blue' wool clips from
thtf Great Southern. Competition wag keen
and animated throughout, and almost a total
clearance was made ut auction. While York
shire was the strongest operator, the Continent
came in keenly on suitable lines, particularly
those of Bne quality and pieces and bellies.
.values were from par to 5 per cent higher than
those obtained in November. Crossbred* also
shared in * the improvement being; 'keenly sought
by -both English and Continental buyers. Lambs,
the: selection of which was somewhat indifferent,
made, excellent prices - and may be- ' quoted as
firm on late rates. Our highest price was 28Jd.

ELDER, SMITH and CO. reports. — Our offer
ins of 10,300 bales and 1,500 bags included
1,700 bales from the North-West, 1,400 bales
from the Murchison and Eastern Goldfields, whilst
our 'blue' wool section from the Lower Great
Southern and South-West was very ' prominent.
The wools from the station country were fully
representative of the production of the big
open spaces, while the wool from the south
was stylish, of good colour and finish, and
{generally in dry condition, being very attrac
tive to the trade. Grouped wool, or the Inter*
lotted section, was again a feature of our' cata-
logue, and .the results obtained were very
satisfactory to our clients. The top price'
was 23d. The selection of lambs' wool was
mainly the production of the south and was
the best submitted by us this season.
The market generally was from par to 5 per
cent, tip on prices ruling on November 27.
The rise was confined more particularly to wools
of Rood average quality and sound fibre. All
other descriptions -were, eagerly sought. Almost
a total clearance was effected, at auction. Our
highest prices were 24d. for five bales of AAA
sold on account of Messrs. W. N. Cock and Sons,
Kaluwiri, Sandstone. Great Southern wool cold
to 28 Jd. for seven bales of AAA com tor
Messrs. Brown Bros.,, Darkan. and tor six bales
of AAA H for Mr. S. Hutchinson, Beverley. Fol

GOLDSBROUGH, MORT and CO. reports:— We
submitted an attractive catalogue of 2,422 bales,
«™wn mainly from the Great Southern and agri
cultural districts. The pastoral areas were
represented by several clips from the Gascoyne.
Murchison and Eastern Goldfielde.- Competition
from all section* was very animated, resulting
in an almost total . clearance under the ham
mer at value* at the- highest point of the
'easSn to date and, 'compared with the sale
on, November. .27, generally from par to 5 per
cent higher. Locks and stained pieces, both
greasy and scoured, and short lambs met
a keen demand and these descriptions were
?lecidcjjly dearer. The demand came principally
trom: Bradford. I ranee and Germany, with good
cunport from Switzerland and Italy. Japan was
not so active as previously.
The top price of our catalogue for greasy
wool was 23 Sd, which was obtained for an
attractive parcel of five bales of AAA Com. sold
on account of Mr. F. O'Meehan. of Mourcourup
Horden. In the scoured section, four bale* of
AAA sold on account of Mr. W. C. Martin. Mt.

Dalgety and Co.
DALGETY and CO. reports. — Our catalogue,
consisting of about 10,000 bales, was the tuost
attractive that we have so far submitted this
season. The selection included 2,500 bale* from
the North-West. 4,500 from the Murchison,
2,600 from the agricultural districts. Great
Southern and South-West, and the balance from
the Eastern Goldtields. A feature of the cata
logue was a record offering of scoured*, there
being approximately 1,000 bale*.
Value* today were generally . from par to 5
per cent higher than bur November rates. At
time* the advance was rather higher than these
quotations, particularly on crossbreds, lock*,
stained pieces and medium to short lamb*. For
all of these descriptions the demand wac ex
tremely keen. Practically total clearance* were
effected. Competition appeared to be fairly
evenly distributed between Bradford and the
Continent. Japanese competition, was not quite
?o keen as formerly, but, nevertheless, a fair
amount of wool was bought for this country.
We again topped the market with 22 bale* of
super fine combing;, sold on account of Mr. W.
Snell, Coll Culli, Nannine, Murchison, which was
bought by John Sanderson and Co. for 243d.
We alao established a record for lamb* with
wool sold on- account of Mr.- F. A. Hadley,
Rivendale, Cranbrook, which made to 2 2 id. In
the scoured section there was an extremely keen
demand. Our highest price was 8214 for 11
bales of brokens of the Boy Hill clip. Follow
ing were the principal price* obtained by us: —
