REPORTED GOLD FIND.
South Australian Venture.
ADELAIDE. Aug. 3.— A meeting of per
sons interested in the reported find of gold
in Western Australia, near the South Aus
tralian border, was held in Adelaide this
morning. Alter it had discussed certain
information ascertained as the result of
inquiries into the proposed formation of a
local syndicate to exploit the discovery, it
was decided to promote an expedition to
prospect the area in question.
Mr. S. J. Laidlaw, who presided at the
meeting, said later that this expedition
would be led by Mr. Talbot, former assist
ant geologist to the Mines Department of
Western Australia. A prominent mining
man would accompany the party as deputy
leader, and another member would pro
bably be Mr. Patrick Whelan, who re
ported that he had made the finds. The
area to be inspected would include that
referred to by Mr. Whelan and the blocks
said to have been pegged out by him. Mr.
Laidlaw, who was in communication with
Perth by telephone this afternoon, said
that these arrangements had been made
pending the approval of the West Austra
lian Government.
