NEDLANDS GARDEN CONTEST.
irophies won in the gardening compe
tition . conducted recently by the Ned
lands Park sub-branch of the Returned Sol
diers' League were presented by the actin'
chairman of the NedlaiNjs Road Board
(Mr. F. W. Martin) at the last meeting of
the sub-branch. The prize winners were
as follow;— B. Herman. 1; H. R. .McLarty.
2; I. Herman, 3; T. W. Donaldson, epe
cial.' Other prizes presented were:— For
vegetables and ..fruit trees, — . Rhodes
(Megalong-road) ; for shrubs and 'creepers,
T. W. Donaldson; for shade house, I.
Herman; for general lay-out of ex-soldiers'
gardens, H. R. McLarty. Mr. Martin
alluded to the growth of the contest from
27 entries a year ago to CC on this occa
sion. ''Thanks were accorded to the judges
(the city gardener and assistant city gar
dener of Perth City Council, Messrs.
Braithwaite, -'Sen. and Jun.) for 'having
devoted a day to the judging. An address
was given by Mr. L. Brigatti, who offered
constructive 'criticisms on 30 of tfie gar
dens in the contest. A suggestion by the
president (Mi*. C. L. Langsford) that a
horticultural society be formed at Ned
lands- was approved.
