Hale School Prefects' Dance
The annual dance of the Hale School
prefects was held at the school hall re
cently. The headmaster (Dr. Buntine) and
Mm Bnntinp were present Mrs. Buntine
wearing a frock of black lace. Among

McKay will leave Perth by mailboat for
Melbourne to-day.
Mrs. J. B. Greene, of Queenslea-drive,
Claremont, has returned home after spend
ing » few -weeks in the hills.
Mke. Peggy Tomlinson, who has been
spending the. last week with Mias Kathl
Dullen, returned to Perth during the week

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Davies, of Kedlands
Park, with their daughter, Miss Nancy
Davies, are spending the school vacation

Hiss Daphne Smith, of Swanbourne, and
Miss Gladys Eadle, of East Fremantle, re
turned from a North-West tour by the
rav. Koolinda.
Miss Noel Perry has returned to Perth
after' having spent a holiday' with her
ancle and aunt,' Mr. and Mrs. NeLsou
Pearce, of Mingenew. ?
Miss Betty Mitchell, who has been
staying with her sister, Mrs. Moore, ex
pects to return- *to her home, The
Grange, on Tuesday next.
Miss Iris Sandercock, of Birdwoodpar
ade, Nedlands, will leave by the Great
Western express on September 3 for an
extended holiday in Brisbane.
Mrs. Mansfield, of Swifts Heath, Subi
aco, is leaving for a health trip to England,
to visit her daughter, Mra. Basil' Parson*,
(nee Miss Veronica Mansfield).

Miss Alice Lee Steere entertained a
number of her friends' at bridge on Thurs
day afternoon. The rooms were decorated

The 1st Hollywood Company of „ Girl
Guides celebrated its first birthday * on
Saturday aittfftioon, when about 50 par
ents and friends enjoyed a programme pro
vided ,'by the jguides. The arrangements
were in the hands of Miss Claire Harris
(captain) and Miss Verna Chandler (lieu
tenant), and. the programme included nur
sery, rhymes, songs.7 games and an amusing
playlet. During the afternoon a birthday
cat- was cut by Mrs. Kirke Godfrey {com
missioner). -
The committee of Miss -Best's old girls
responsible for the Amy Jane Best Prize
FuifH, met' at Mrs: Stewart's invitation,
at her residence, Ventnor-avenue, West
Perth, yesterday afternoon.- In the un
avoidable absence of the chairman Mrs.
Xorinan Temperley, Miss Holmes (trea
surer) presided. Before the .proceedings'
commenced. Miss Holmes asked -members
to stand in silence in appreciation of the
-rreat services Vrendered tp-:them'by their'
kte beloved,: teacher, as it was the first
time they 'had met c-iBcially' since Miss
Best's .death. ' The honoranr secretary
(Mrs. W.. Bakton). then read the minutes
of the last .annual meeting, which were
received and adopted.- A motion proposed
by Mrs. Balston to the effect that the
secretary should call Mfcs Best's old
girls^ together annually as near as possible
to April 9. Mi* Best's birthday, which
they had' always celebrated as a. token
of their affection and esteem, was carried
unanimously. The treasurer reported that
the fund for the Amy Jane -Best Prize in
the brnk was now over- £48. and that
there were still niapy subscriptions to

At yesterday's meeting Miss Gertrude

were the guests of 'Mrs. Ste/wart (Miss.
Best's sister) at the conclusion of the
meeting at afternoon tea. Miss Hilfirty
aided Mrs. Stewart in the dispensing of
hospitality.
Mrs.' Tom 'Moore and her sister. Miss
Ambrose, invited a number of their
friends to play bridge and' mah-jon?K at
the Hotel Esplanade on Friday afternoon.
