CUTS IN PROTECTED INDUSTRIES

MELBOURNE, March- 9.— Members -of
the Labour Women's Organising Commit
tee passed the following resolution at their
annual conference: — ,-
This' conference' views with disappointment
the action of certain firms, and ~ industries,
?which ihave ; been.} grantedi either 5 ,very hiffh
protection' 'or 'even -tbtal^prbhibitioh' against
the importation of goods ? manufactured by
them, applying to' the -Commonwealth ^Arbi-
tration Court for a reduction uof ..the living
standards of men and women workers; and
the conference Instructs, the; incoming, execu
tive to arrange a deputation to 'the Prime
Minister; to urge him to provide- that ^ in all
cases where protection or prohibition ' Is grant
ed it shall -be on condition that the 'industry
affected shall .'give a .written undertaking to
the Government not to reduce wages below
the- equivalent. oi the Harvester judgment., -'
