NEW; STATE
The Proposed Boundaries.
CANBERRA; March 9.— A further, in
dication that the new State movement in
New . South- Wales is gaining' momentum
is that invitations are being sent' to 95
local governing organisations 10 aweuo -*
constitution, convention at Maitlancl; on
April. 7 to draft a constitution for the
proposed new State of New England!
The area wili be about 130,000 square
miles, or about 4O;OO6 square, .miles larger
than Victoria. . It has a population :of
500,000. It is interesting to note that
Victoria, at separation, had a population
of only 75,000,-and- Queensland 25,000.
The boundaries of the proposed , ... new
Federal unit', have Ib'een ^drawn t'upi ten

On the North, by the-Queensland border
from the Pacific.ocean to the 147th parallel;
on the East by the Pacific Ocean from
the Queensland border to 'the southerly
boundary of the parish of Stewell; from
the Queensland border at the 147th' parallel
down 'the parallel to. the Darling River;
along the southern BojTndary of the Wal
gett Shire to the junction of Namoi Shire;
following the western boundaries of the
Namoi and Coonabarabran- shires1 to the
junction of the Tamarang Shire; along
the southern boundary of the Tamarang
Shire to the junction of the Merriwa
Shire; along the western, boundary of the
Merriwa Shire to the junction of, Meroo;
along the Meroo Shire boundary to
Bailey's; following the main dividing range
through the Cooyal Gap and Munghern
Gap to the, BJiyktone^Shire^boundary at
Box Hill; following along the main divid
ing range io Mt: Graham, Mt. Bullie to
Mt. Cericudg; along the southern boun
dary of Muswellbrook to the source of
Doyle Creek; thence to Mt. Howe and
Mt. Adams; along the southern, boundary
of Cessnock to Branxton, taking in Mait
land; and' thence along' the southern boun
daries of the new electorates of New
