FRENCH TRAGEDY.
PARIS, Jan. 26.— Madame Godin, .who
was tried in. the Assize Court at Riom
on a charge of having ro.urcered her hus
band, was sentenced to eighteen months'
imprisonment.
It was disclosed in evidence that Madame
Godin bought'her husband a notary's. busi-
ness at Olermont-Ferrard, but had con
tinual-quarrels with him owing to his lazi
ness and affairs with women. Eventually,
she drew a revolver from her stocking, and
holding him by the right hand, shot him in
the presence of her flaugliters. As he was
dying, she bent her head- over his body,
and said: 'you. poor devil,. I should like
to kiss you, but I 'cannot. You are dying
for the kisses of others.'
Her daughters gave evidence that their
mother on readinjr o newspaper account
of a crime of passirm had said, 'I shall
kill him— they are always acquitted.'
