SOUTHERN CROSS FIND.
SOUTHERN CROSS, Friday.—At Tuc-
key and Penglases' find Mr. H. P. Rockett,
Inspector of Mines, viewed the discovery
to-day, and was much impressed with the
amount of free gold in the quartz he saw
broken at a depth of 8ft. from where the
reef was first struck. The prospectors
have bagged about ¾ of a ton of rich iron-
stone quartz, and have a paddock of good
crushing dirt. They have started a new
shaft to cut the reef about 50ft. further
north. The ground was formerly known
as Eureka, and not Excelsior, as previously
stated.
A trial crushing is being sent to the
Coolgardie State battery.
