TRAINS COLLIDE.
Fireman Injured.
Melbourne. Jnlv 22.
Aravellmg steadily down a gentle hill
leading into 'Beyeridgc. 36 miles froon
Melbourne, a mixed train this morning
crashed into a goods train which was
sicie-track-e-i on rhe up-line. Extensive
damage was caused to rolling stock, a
fireman was injured, and traffic arrange
ments on the main north-eastern line
were disorganised.
The passenger train was the 7 a.m,
mixed train from Seymour to Melbourne.
The goods train had left Melbourne for
stations on the north-eastern line abour
halfspast four o'clock in the morning ana'
it had been shunting at Beveridse station
The driver of the Se-ymour train did not
appear to &ee the goods- train standing
in the station until it -was too lare to
avoid an accident. The mixed traia crash
ed into the engine of the goods train as it
was slowing down. The heavy A2 express
engine wag undamaged by the impact but
the front portion of the stationary en
gine suffered considerably. The chief
damage to the n-.ixed train occurred to
the last of t.he goods trucks, and the first
of the passenger cars. Altogether there
were about 20 passengers on- the train.
