BURGLARS ARRESTED.
A Sergeant Injured.

Two lrjrg'ar» were surprised by the
lioiiee shortiy' after they had entered a
tiioi- in Kiiig-street. N'ewtown. this af
ternoon. One of them resisted arrest.
and Sergeant Terry, of the Xewtown
police, received painful injuries.
At about u.30 p.m. the Newt-own police
were iufurmcu that two men unknown
in the district had been seen to enter
a dressmaker's shop at 2S3 King-street,
Xewtown. A squad of six men -was de
tailed to investigate. The police went
to the shop, and, after seeing that all
the exits were guarded. Sergeant Terry,
with three constables, quietly entered
the door which had been forced, open,
and wiiieli save on to a small passage
way. At the end of the passage-way
was another door, through whic-h the
maiu. simp would be reached. It was
locked, and before it on hands and knees
wore two men Inisily engaged in sawing
through one of the panels-.' Hearing a
noise behind him. lite ltirge-r of the men
looked up. On st-eing i.':e p-vire, ho a:

though outinstehed in size, jumped for
ward and. grappled with the man. who

had time to come :o his rescue the ser
geant was forced through an adjacent

badly gaslird. The other police over
powered -lis opponent and' took him. with
