YUGOSLAVS REFUSE
U.S. CLAIMS
Compensation Still
Sought For Aircraft
WASHINGTON, May 11.—AAP.
Despite repeated State Depart-<*>
ment demands, Yugoslavia refuses
to pay compensation for the two
American aircraft shot down in
August, 1946.
Yugoslavia has paid $150,000
(about £A 46,900) to dependants of
the five airmen killed, but negotia
tions on the remaining United
States claims have fallen into a
deadlock because Yugoslavia con
tends that the aircraft flew over
Yugoslav territory.
The State Department firmly
rejects this contention, and is
pressing for the payment of up to
$250,000 for the loss of one aircraft
and damage to the other. i
