CROP COMPETITION
POWER FARMING CUP
RETURNED SOLDIER AGAIN
SUCCESSFUL
The fifth Power Farming Cup crop
competition. South Australian section,
was won by Mr. R. R, Wilson, Yee-<*>
lanna, Eyre Peninsula, and the trophy
was presented to ths winner by the
Minister Ibr Agriculture (Mr. Wbltford)
on Thursday.
In making the presentation toe
Minister said that Mr. Wilson was to
be congratulated on the success be bad
achieved. Wheat was the most Im
portant product of the State, and the
man who excelled In its production was
an asset to the country.
Mr. Wilson to thanking the Minister
and donors of the cup, said the
Yeelanna district was among the best to
the State for wheat production, and
with the application of science wrfiyr
returns would yet be obtained. Power
farming had, he thought, come to stay,
buthe was a strong advocate for the
working of horses in conjunction with
the tractor.
Mr. Wilson had worked a McCormick-
Deering tractor and he won the com
petition jWJth ipo acres of Beena
wheat, waleh averaged 40 bushels to the
acre. Mr.ll T. Hynes, Artburton, se
cured second place in the compeH
taon with wheat of the Wonder Sheaf
variety, which averaged 33 bushels, and
Mr. C. H. Dunn. Black Springs, was
third with Oaulpou wSeaVwnich
returned 33 bushels.
Mr. WQson, who is secretary of the
valmwm branch, of the Agricultural
Bureau, is a returned soldier, having
served with the 9th Light Hone and
Signalling in ZSgypt ' and
Palestine. It is pleasing to note that
both the State wheat crop compettttois
for last harvest were won by returned
men, Mr. F. V. Trenorden. of M«n/?.n a
having gained first place to the grand
championship competition, conducted
by the Agricultural Bureau.
