City Council.
The business to bo brought' betör«

reports from the Réservée Committee
regarding the North Hobart recreation
ground and from the building commit
tee with reference to plans of new build-
ings and verandahs in the city.
Wharf Repairs.
1 Progress is being made with the repairs
to the wharf at King's pier necessitated
by the steamer Zealandia having run
Into it- '. The gap, which extended fdr
several feet into the wharf, has been
made good, and new planking provided.
The' displaced shed was lifted on to roll-
ers preparatory to the work of recon-
struction, and when repaired can be
restored to. its original position with
the minimum, of trouble. Tho task of
making good tho damage as' a whole
should be completed in a very short1
time. .
A Sorell Case.
" In the report of tho' case heard at the
Sorell Court of Requests last week, in
which J. H. Fenner, sued E. Green in
connection with the agistment of a mare,
it was stated that costs wero given
against defendant. It should have been
stated that the costs were given against
plaintiff, tlie case having been dismissed.
Accidents.
Two young men wero admitted to the
Hobart Public Hospital.on Saturday as
a result of minor injuries. Richard
Post, aged 20 years, who lives at 220
Elizabeth-street, injured a shoulder
while playing football. William Love
grove, aged 15, of Goodwood-road,
Glenorchy,, a wood-turner, met. with an
'Injury'athis''work. ' While he'was turn-
ing wood, a wood-bobbin flew from the
machine and struck him in the mouth,
cutting his mouth ' and. lip. The blow
loosened two or three teeth.
Zeehan Hospital Board.
-The annual election of members for
the Zeehan Hospital Board and Dispen-
sary Board was held' on Saturday.
Messrs.' G. V. Brown, C. Abraham, and
N. Menzies were the only nominations
for the ' three seats on the Dispensary
Board,1 and for tlie , four seats on the
Hospital Board, Messrs. A. JJ. Bigwood,
F. Bennett, M. Kean, and A. J. Eales
wore elected.

Arbor Day at Franklin.
Franklin, August 21. - Yesterday was
observed as Arbour Day by the commit-
tee of the Franklin recreation ground.

native trees, such as celery top, laurel,
[ and wattles, wero planted around the
ground. Some of the trees wero sup-
plied by the Forestry Department. The
top-dressing of the ground, which com-
prises a little over seven acres, is al-
most completed. Heavy sowings of
white Dutch clover will be made shortly,
this variety ot grass having proved suc-
cessful on sandy soil. The kikuyu roots,
supplied by tho Agricultural Depart-
ment two years ago, have multiplied
rapidly, and have been transplanted over
a large area of the ground. ~
Burning Accident.
Launceston, August 21. - Mrs. E.
Goodchalk, of Bedford-street, Launces-
ton, was attending to the kitchen fire at
her home yesterday, when her clothes
became ignited. She rushed into the
street, where neighbours put out the
flames. The woman, who was burned
about the body and legs, was admitted
to the Launceston Public Hospital. .
Pigmy Woman in Sydney,
A woman of tho'Bushman pigmy peo-
ple of Africa arrived at Sydney from
Durban by tlie Menes last week, as one
of a troupe which Mr. Tasman Bradley,
an Australian showman, brought back
with him, after touring Africa. The
woman's name is Chillwlngl, she is 25
years ot age, and is 30 inches in height
Tho pigmy speaks Dutch as well as her
own tongue, but has no knowledge ot
English. Passengers by the vessel de-
scribed her alarm when she realised that
no land was in sight. "Ship runs up
and down the hills," was her way of de-
scribing the movements of tho steamer
in the ocean swell.
MAINLAND
South Johnstone Strike.
Cairns. (Q.), August 21. - The strike
committee at Soutli Johnstone on Satur-
day declared everything to or from
South Johnstone by rail or boat "black."
The Australian Railways Union'and the
Waterside Workers' Federation have
been notified accordingly. It is not
known whether the Australian Workers'
Union, to which organisation the strikers
belong, have endorsed the decision.
