Joke
Frenchman Charged
With Murder
SYDNEY, Jairusxy 3.
A boy nnroco. Ucorge fuña, aged 15
years, waa ebot just beneath thc heart
in Little Burton-street, Darlinghurat, this
afternoon, and died soon afterwards in
the Sydney Hospital. It was reported
that a Frenolrmau, who waa subsequently
arrested by the police and charged' with
murder, attacked anoliher boy 'in tho
Blroet, and then grappled with Dunn,
shooting him after he bad struggled free.
Constable Swift reported that Hhortiy
oiftor 3 o'clock this afternoon bc noticed
an excited crowd ou the footpath in
Little Burton-street, and upon approach-
ing he saw two boys lyme on thc gronraL
He questioned some onlookers, and one
man bold hhn that a Frenchman had shot
Dunn. This man indicated a house at 0
Little Burtontitreet, and told the officer
that the armed assailant had nm in there
after the shooting. The constable en-
tered the house, and noticed a man walk-
ing down the stairs. As the man reached
the foot of the stairway Constable Swift
covered hfm with a revolver, ait the same
time ordering him to surrender. The
man, who was of French nationality, sub-
mitted quietly, and later showed Con-
stable Swift where his revolver waa lying
on a table. The officer examined thc
firearm, and found that it contained1 four
live and one "spent cartridges. The ar-
rested man gave thc name of Pierro Ati-
nen Mousaet, aged ¡52 years, a cook.
According to storiw told to thc polieo
bier, a boy- named William Bennett, aged
IC years, of Darlinghurst, was .Awkincf
alonit "Little Ilurton-etreot with some
other youths when hie hat waa thrown
over a fence in a joke. Bennett retrieved
his hat, and when he returned to the
footway Mouasett. who had in thc mean-
time walked from hiß holme near by,
caught hold of him and punched him on
the jaw, knocking bim senseless. Dram
noticed thc man's action from a distance,
and ran to tile scene immediately. Mous
sntt caught him by the arme, and a strug-
gle ensued. Eventually Dunn freed him-
self, and was running .way when Mous
sett. is ailcgod to have drawn a revolver
from his pocket and tired a shot at aim
Dunn fell to the footpath shot.
So far the poHce officers working on the
case have been unable to discover airy
motive for the crime. Several theories
are being conaidered, one being that tho
boys in thc neighbourhood' have been
worrying Mouasett.
Moussett will appear before the Central
Police Court to-morrow to answer Hm
charge o-f murder.
