OUR BOYS' INSTITUTE.
On Friday evening Mr. Daniel Matthews,
the founder and director of the Maloga
mission to the aborigines of Australia, ac- <*>
companied by members of his family and
Miss Chapman, entertained the members
of Our Boys' Institute in their reading
room. Mr. Matthews exhibited life-sized
pictures of native camp life and related
numerous interesting stories in connection
with his work, securing the interest and at-
tention of the audience. The mission choir
rendered a number of jubilee and other
songs. On Saturday afternoon the open-
ing ramble of the 0.B.I. season took place.
A dragload of boys left the Bank of Ade-
laide on a tour of inspection of the work of
the Salvation Army. First they visited the
farm at Lockleys, then they proceeded to
the Prison-gate Home at Whitmore-square.
There they were met by Corporal Miller,
who initiated the boys into the
mysteries of carpentering, picture-framing,
and mat-making. They were also shown
through the dormitories, the dining-room
and the yard for rubbish-sorting. They
then proceeded, still accompanied by Staff-
Captain Miller, to the citadel in Pirie-
street, where, after being shown over the
fine premises, they adjourned to the din-
ing-room and partook of a substantial tea.
Mr. Laughton, on behalf of the ramblers,
returned thanks for the pleasant after-
noon, and expressed surprise at the magni-
tude and usefulness of the industrial de-
partments of the Army work.
