STRANGE BEHAVIOUR
Well-To-Do Man- Lives
In Poverty
Sl'UXBY, November 12.
In the Equity Court today evidence
was given that Peter Harris, a farmerT
aged 30, and his wife, had lived periuri
ously near Wellington, although he
owned property worth moro .than
£7,000. It was stated that his wife was
allowed only one new dress In two
years, and that he always maintained
that he was too poor to buy furniture.
Harris' widow applied under the Tes-
tators' Family Maintenance Act for an
order in respect of his estate. The tes-
tator died on July, and lett an estate of
£4,011. During his life he made gifts to
a son and grandson ot assets having a
value ot £3,414. By his will he loft his
widow a legacy ot £400 and his furni-
ture, valued at £10, and gave tho rest
of his estate to his children by a former
marriage and two grandsons.
