Reported Armistice Prema-
ture

PARIS; December 24.
. It- appears that the report of the
signing of an armistice between the
French and the Druse tribesmen in
i Syria is' premature, for no confirma-
tion of the report has as yet been re-
ceived by the French Government.
., A. despatch received from Beyrout
says that the general situation in
Syria is improving, tho Damascus
region being the calmest. A new mili-
tary post has been established in
Lebanon, following the complete clear-
ance of bands of tribesmen from the
Aleppo region, where two bandit chiefs
have been captured.

BEYROUT, December 26.
Messages received in Paris confirm
the report that the Druses lost 70 kill
¡ ed and had 200 wounded in recent en-
gagements at Hasbaya and Fort St.
I Christophine. The bandits last night
hastily mobilised under cover of a vio-
lent storm, and swooped down on the
i railway station, but the garrison held
off the attackers until an armoured
train arrived and routed them.

LONDON, December 27.
There are persistent reports in Lon-
don that an agreement has been reach-
ed between France and Syria on the
basis of the granting of a Provisional
Government, and that all future differ-
ences between the two countries shall
be arbitrated upon by the League of
Nations. ,. . , ?
