LOST SUBMARINE
POSSIBLE CAUSE OP DISASTER.
PREVIOUS ACCIDENT
DESCRIBED.
(Australian Press As»oel«.tlon.)
LONDON, November 22. I
The "Daily Express" publishes a
letter from a member of the crew of
the lost submarine Ml he had written
to his home, and in which he describes
an accident which occurred to the sub-
marine a few weeks previously. He
wrote: "When we dived the motor
burned out, causing the hydroplanes
to blow out, and the boat wes uncon-
trollable. We were then 30 feet down,
and immediately dropped 120 feet. We
were still falling when the captain or-
dered the tanks to be blown up. Then
we shot to the surface, after dropping
150 feet." .
The paper suggests thal a similar
accident caused the Ml to rush to the
surface, and to strike with terrific
force the steamer Vidar, which was
reported by her master (Captain
Anell) to have experienced two shocks
when passing Start Point on the morn
inr ot November 12,
