GRAZIERS' WIFE
STRANGLED.
IN CITY HOTEL
SYDNEY, Wednesday.
C.I.B. detectives are question-
ing the owners of dry cleaning
shops in Sydney and suburbs in
a search for the slayer of Mrs.
Loma Helmers.
Mrs. Helmers' savagely bat-
tered and strangled body was
found in a room on the sixth
floor of the Mansions Private
Hotel, Elizabeth Street, City,
early to-day.
She was nude. Police believe
she was killed by a sex maniac.
They are canvassing dry clean-
ers in the hope that the killer
may have attempted to have
blood-stained clothing cleaned.
Mrs. Helmers, the wife of a
Bombala grazier, lived with her
mother in a block of flats in
Warners Avenue, Bondi.
She has been separated from
her husband, Leslie Arthur
Helmers, of Bombala, for some
time.
Police have established that
she went to the private hotel
about 7 o'clock last night with
a man.
The booking clerk told police
that she appeared to be slightly
under the influence when she ar-
rived at The Mansions, but her
male companion was sober.
Police believe that a young
soldier could be of great help
in their investigations.
