RETAIL STORES
SYDNEY, Sunday.
A £3,500,000 merger will open
a new chain of 16 department
stores this week in N.S.W., Vic-
toria and Queensland.
The deal is one of the largest
retail store property deals ever
made in Australia (sic).
It was announced to-night by
Mr. John R. Walton, managing
director of Waltons Ltd.
Headquarters of Waltons Ltd.
will be the Sydney city store
formerly owned by Murdochs
Ltd. which has been remodelled
at a cost of £100,000
Outside Sydney the company
will have branches at Newcastle
and Wollongong.
Victorian branches will be in
Melbourne City, Fitzroy and
Footscray.
Queensland branches will be in
Brisbane, South Brisbane, Ips-
wich and Toowoomba.
