ROYAL TOUR ITINERARY
ANNOUNCED FOR 1954
MELBOURNE, Friday.
Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of
Edinburgh will visit Australia from February 3 to April 1, 1954, it
was announced in a broad outline of the royal tour itinerary released
by the Prime Minister's Department to-day.
The Royal Party will travel from New Zealand to Australia in
the Gothic, arriving in Sydney on Wednesday, February 3.
On the morning of Saturday,
February 13, they will leave
New South Wales by air for
Brisbane and spend nine days in
Queensland
Canberra on February 22.
The Gothic will be available for
any visits to North Queensland
ports, but the Royal Party is ex-
pected to leave Brisbane on the
morning of Monday, February 22,
for the Australian Capital Territory
where they will remain until
Saturday, February 27.
The Royal Party will be in
New South Wales on February
27 embarking in the Gothic for
Melbourne where the Gothic will
arrive on the morning of Monday
March 1.
The Victorian tour will cover a
period of ten days, the royal
party embarking once again in
the Gothic on the afternoon of
Wednesday, March 10, for Tas-
mania
Arriving at Hobart on the
morning of Friday, March 12, the
Royal Couple will spend six days
in Tasmania - two of which will
be free of official engagements.
The Royal Party will depart
from Tasmania by air in the
afternoon of Wednesday, March
17, for South Australia.
A one-day visit to Broken Hill
will be included in the itinerary
for South Australia, where the
Royal Party will stay from
March 17 to 26 before departing
by air to Perth via Kalgoorlie.
The Australian tour will con-
clude on the afternoon of Thurs-
day April 1, when the Royal
Party embarks in the Gothic at
Fremantle.
Travel by Air
Her Majesty has intimated
her willingness to fly during the
tour to save time and to permit
her to visit a greater area of the
Commonwealth.
It is understood that the
Gothic will be used during the
tour of North Queensland ports
and for travel from New South
Wales to Tasmania and from
Tasmania to Victoria.
