DIESEL ENGINES AS
GIFT TO PAKISTAN
MELBOURNE, Monday.
The Minister for External
Affairs, Mr. Casey, announced in
Melbourne to-day that Australia
would contribute about £800,000
to the cost of nine diesel locomotives
to be sent to Pakistan
under the Colombo Plan.
About £320,000 in dollars would
be contributed by Pakistan for
parts and materials for the locomotives,
now being built in Sydney.
Development of Commonwealth
and State railways would
not be affected by the manufacture
of the engines, said Mr.
Casey.
