BODY-LINE INCIDENT.
Umpire " Calls " Policeman.
ST. KILDA MATCH.
MELBOURNE, Thursday.— In a
cricket match between police
teams at St. Kilda yesterday, cric
ket history was made. Senior-con-
stable Charlesworth bowled with
such pace and accuracy that he
secured six wickets for 50 runs. On .
one occasion a short ball hit the
batsman, and the umpire (J. Stell-
man) called "no-ball," in con
formity with the new Australian
body-line rule. This is the first re
corded occasion since the rule was
framed that a Howler has been
"no-balled" for allegedly intimi
dating the batsman.
The umpire warned Charles-
worth that if the incident were re
peated he would refuse to allow
him to bowl. Charlesworth, who is
a keen cricketer, said, to-day that
he was not intimidating the bats
man. He did not have a leg field
at the time.
