PRODUCTION NOT
LIKELY TO ;
RISE IN U.K.
LONDON, Friday.
It now appeared unlikely that
the rise In U.K. industrial production
of Britain would rise as
had been hoped, Sir, Arthur
Salter said yesterday.
Sir Arthur, Minister of State
for Economic Affairs told the
House of Commons that export
prospects had worsened since
March. i <
He was replying to Mr. Hugh
Gaitskell, former Labour Chancellor,
who had asked Sir Arthur
if he did not agree that the decline
in production in the last
eight months was a serious matter.
Sir Arthur said there might be
some expansion in the metal and
metal using industries, particularly
in steel and in capital goods
for which there was still a big
export demand. % - i
