M. Fitzpatrick, manager, reports under
date Oct. 7th :—I have put two men to
driveron the main footwall going west
from No. 2 plat on a reef that will average
6ineof poor quality stone. In the stopes
on this side of the shaft the stone has
piuchedvery small, but there is stone
coming on the banging wall which I think
will take its place at No. 3 plat. The
eastern drive has been driven a further
distance of 14ft, making 41ft from the
shaft: There has been some good break
ingatone in this drive, but it is breaking
up again. In the stopes over this level
there is very little stone, only leaders in
the formation. The west level has been
drived isft, making 39ft from the shaft,
there is some very good stone in this
drive, but it is very bunchy. In the
stopes over this drive there is a reef of
6insofgood stone. Have hauled 15 tons
for the fortnight, making 288 tons in the
piddock.

" beentunk 7ft, total depth 26ft. I have
7stopped, sinking it and put the men to take
out stone each side of the winze. The reef
‘on the western side will average 12in of
goodisto ne. On the eastern it will average
76in.The reef in the stopes to the west of
the rise varies from 1ft to 18in of medium
Zqualit y. We are driving and stoping to
> theenskof the rise on a reef from 6 to lOin
candratout 3ft of hard formation. Quartz
• hauled for the fortnight, 50 tons, total in
Pone New Queen.
A.Thes.Cook, manager, reports for fort
A might an ding 7th Oct. :—No. 5 formation.
“In the No. 2 level stoping has been
•continued over this level with two rock
arils,” The reef here is looking much
: “hettersyith a better formation, and there
“is a great deal of water coming through it.
" The reel averages from 15in to 2ft of stone
‘ and a fair amount of mineral. In the
a-acommiencement of the fortnight we laid a
* double trnck road up to the face, distance
, 447 from No 2 level to present face—80ft. In I
s the underband stope in No. 2 level we have
folly Tsin of good looking stone. During I
- - the past week we have been baling out the
Sfweterih the underlie at No. 5, and I hope
Eto be in a position to open out during the
Scomingsweek. No. 4 formation. No. 3
' northern level ; Stoping has 'been con
tinuedwith two men single-handed, and
7" the reef looks well, measuring 2ft of heavy
"Pmineral’stone, which looks’very promising I
“ sfor the future, I have also started to sink
‘gPadwinze down in this block, the present
,2 depth from the level being 20ft, making 5ft
“Fsincewe started to sink last Monday ; the
2*5"e averages 18in of well mineralised
stone. No. 1 southern level : Stoping has
been continued here with 3 men single
handed on 16in of good looking stone. No
1 formation—I have eight men single
handed in different parts of this formation,
and all are raising a little stone which
continues to look very well. All machinery
in connection with the mine is in good
order. Quartz hauled for the fortnight
442 trucks.
: Brilliant and St. George.
J. Carroll, manager, reports for fortnight
ending 6th October :—We have continued
the stoping over No. 6 east level on 4ft. of
stone, which is at present rather white.
No. 7 east level—we are stoping on 2ft. of
stone and ns we work to the east it gets
poorer. No. 8 eastThe hanging wall
level has been driven 30ft., making it a
distance of 82ft. from the crosscut. For
the last 10ft. we have not carried any
stone in this drive. I am thinking of
leaving this level stand until we start
stoping at No. 9 for filling up the stopes
with the mullock that will come out in
driving it again. We will require a winze
to go down from the footwall level on this
side. In the stopes over this level we are
working for about l5ft. in height with a
reef on the footwall and stone on the
hanging wall and veins through it between
the reef. No. 9 east level has been driven
9ft., making a total of 148ft. .from the
shaft. The distance between the wall is
17ft. with 2ft of stone on the hanging wall
and 3ft. of formation under it, and from
that to the footwall it is all reef, but not
so mineralised as the stone up at No. 3
level. The stopes over No. 7 west are
becoming small.. just now, about 1ft of
stone. No. 2 west level—The footwall
level off No. 1 crosscut. has been driven
20ft and holed into the end of No. 2 cross
cut on about 1ft of stone, which proves the
walls to be 56ft apart in this part of the
mine. The slopes over the foot and
hanging wall are about the same as last
reported on. No. 9 west level has been
driven 14ft, making it 157ft ; this level is
also making very large between the walls.
We have 2ft of stone on what appears to j
be a true wall, then 5ft of formation which |
is rather stiff ground, and we have over
this 4ft of stone and a mixture of
quartz and formation for another 5ft
over that and finally again going away into
the hanging wall. We are opening these
stopes over this level on 4ft of stone. The
contractors have sunk the winze 20ft,
making it 81ft from the level, on 2ft of
stone, with stone showing in the footwall.
The shaft has been sunk 8ft, making it
104ft from No. 9 plat. We have cut out
for No. 10 plat and timbered the same
overhead. We have hauled 1150 tons and
crushed at the Company’s Mill 884 tons
and at the Syndicate Mill 270 tons for
1320oz 15dwt of smelted gold. We cleaned
out No. 3 boiler.
