PIG AND CALF SALE
Messrs. Yeates Bros. Pty., Ltd., and
Griffin and Lightbody conducted their
weekly sale of pigs and bobby calves at
their Harristown yards yesterdav
when about 250 pigs and 27 bobby
calves were penned. The yarding con
sisted of baconers, some very fine pork
ers, good stores, and a fair number
of good quality small pigs. There was
a good attendance of local and visit
ing buyers, and competition was with
out question the most spirited for some
time. Small pigs also showed a little
Improvement. It is quite apparent that
there was not sufficient feed available
to induce buyers to compete exten
sively for this line. Bacon pigs dress
ing from 90 to 1201b. sold at 55d. per
lb. over the scales. Prime bacon pigs
sold to £2/15/. medium to £2/7/6, ex
tra heavyweights, dressing 1601b., rea
lised £3/6/8. As stated above, porkers
sold particularly well and reached the
highest prices obtained for some time.
Choice quality porkers sold from 42/6
to 46/6; good trade norkers. 36/ to
41/6: lightweights. 31/6 to 33/6; good
quality forward stores, 25/ to 30/6;
others, 22/ to 23/; slips, 12/6 to 15/;
weaners, from 13/ to 16/6; small pigs,
from 8/ to 10/; a few others, 6/6 to 7/.
The agents advise that thev have al
most an unlimited demand for norkers
and forward stores, and that the en-
nuirv will continue for some time.
Vendors are assured of good comuetl-
t.ion for ah forward pigs thev have
available. The film's next sale will I
t"ke place on Thursday, September
