> RIFLE SHOOTING.

It should be a great day on the Too
wcomba rifle range to-morrow, when,
the final shoot in the series of matches
by enbem of the Darling Done Rifle
Club, fur the Overseas trophy takes
place. At present J. Atwell’s team.are
leading, but as the trophy goes to the
team with the best aggregate in two
out of the three matches, the other
teams all have a chance of winning it.
Captain Roshrook has decided to have
boards behind the mounds for each
tozms scores. This he has found neccs
sery to prevent tire men on the mounds
being disturbed. There will also bo a
ccactice shoot for other members of
the D.D.R. Club, nd for members of
rhe Railway Rifle Club.
- The committee of the ladies Red
Cross .Society are providing afternoou
tea and refreshments on the riflo range
tomorrow. The proceeds are in aid of
their Queet of the Day nomination, aad
it is anticipated that as tins competi
lion closes to-morrow night, rif.emon
will agat do their littlo bit.
The Railway Rifle Club members aro
greatly handicapped for want of rifles,
rha secretary (Mr. H. E’cock), has in
timed that Gs present they have only
20 Martini-Eofield rifles for the use of
the whole of the olub’s members. He,
hawever, anticipates receiving a further
bitch of rifles shortly. In last Satar
day's practice shoot for membens of this
club, the bast scores were: II. Eleock
78, C. M’Tnkceh G3, G. Cooko"61,A.
Jamieson 50; I?/, Barlow 49, J. T.Mat
tingly 40 und G. Coote 48: • Thereswere
a number of other shooters.
Now that several trophies have been
raised for individual competitions,
greater interest will be. taken in the1
shooting. Tlierecretary, of the Railway,
Pifle Clb was" very pleased when he
received Mr. J. B’Kinney’s trophy 3es
toray. . ,4 •.
' Messrs. J.Mhnd (Mi Kolly’s gold medal
will also provide a keen contest for
I members of both clubs. The mode of
competition forther trophies will be an

It is anticipated that there will be a
; goad attendance of visitcrs at the rife
rarge to-morrow. Many of the young
| ladies who are now keen on. rifle shoot
ing. have signified their intention of
being present. Captain Reebrook, of
ficer in charge of the shooting, has
promised that he will, if possible, get
thom a target to have a few shots be
fore it gets too latc in the day. Some
of the ladies on Saturday last waited
all the afterzoon for a shot, then, ow
ing to darkness were disappointed.
However, they should have better luek

Anyone wishing to join the Darling
Downs Rifle, Club can do so by-calling
on the captain (MIr. J. Resbrodk) at
the Toowoomba. Gas Co.’s office, Mar
garet-s troet.* It costs a small sum to
join, and it is worthy of note that
rifle clehs are classed rs Reserve of ;
the AustralianGitary Forces, and in ■
the Oath of Allegiance or rmation, ’

on of the recagnised books, styled ”A
Rifte Shots Register." In these are
shooting instructions, notes on the move,
mutt of the rifle, position in shooting,
aiming. wind allowance, etc. Also
charts and other valuable information,
b.sides f^dto sheets, etc.
. To many, people who visit a rifle
range, the recording of shots by, the
markers is a mysterious proceeding. Far
their benefit the-following. is the .method.'
